Lead Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

What will you be responsible for? 

As the Lead Ruby on Rails API Developer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust and secure RESTful APIs. You will lead a team of developers, collaborating closely with external clients and their engineering/IT teams to understand requirements, implement custom authentication schemes, and integrate with external APIs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Ruby on Rails API development, along with proficiency in PostgreSQL and experience working directly with external clients.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of Ruby on Rails developers, focusing on API design, development, and integration.
  • Architect, design, and implement secure and scalable RESTful APIs, adhering to best practices and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with external clients and their engineering/IT teams to understand requirements, gather feedback, and ensure successful integration with external systems and services.
  • Implement custom authentication schemes, including Single Sign-On (SSO), OAuth, JWT, and token-based authentication, leveraging identity management platforms like Okta.
  • Integrate with external APIs and third-party services, handling authentication, data exchange, and error handling effectively.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, QA, and support, to deliver high-quality API solutions that meet client needs and expectations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to internal and external stakeholders, including developers, clients, and partners.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize API performance, reliability, and scalability, implementing improvements as needed.
  • Utilize PostgreSQL database for efficient data storage, retrieval, and management within the Ruby on Rails applications.
  • Explore and integrate OpenAI API capabilities into our applications to enhance functionality and provide innovative solutions.
  • Leverage Azure cloud services for hosting, deployment, and integration with other Azure services as necessary.

 

 

 

Who we are looking for? 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering.
  • Minimum of 6+ years of hands-on experience in Ruby on Rails API development, with a strong understanding of RESTful principles and best practices.
  • Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails framework and associated technologies.
  • Proficiency in PostgreSQL database management, including data modeling, optimization, and querying.
  • Proven experience implementing custom authentication schemes, including Single Sign-On (SSO), OAuth, JWT, and token-based authentication.
  • Experience with identity management platforms such as Okta, including implementing SSO and user authentication flows.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience interacting with external clients and their engineering/IT teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex technical challenges and propose effective solutions.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and tools such as Jira.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Knowledge of security best practices and techniques for securing APIs, including encryption, authentication, and authorization.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD).
  • Familiarity with Azure cloud services and experience deploying and managing applications on the Azure platform.
