Organization Background:

The Storage & Data Protection Administrator will be responsible for administering and optimizing enterprise backup and storage environments with a focus on CommVault and enterprise storage platforms. This role supports operational stability, data protection, and disaster recovery readiness across hybrid infrastructures. The candidate will work closely with infrastructure, server, and application support teams to ensure reliable, scalable, and secure data storage solutions.

What will you be responsible for?

Backup Administration & Support

  • Administer and troubleshoot CommVault backup environments.
  • Maintain case ownership and provide timely updates to stakeholders.
  • Perform incident resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Monitor performance and capacity; conduct tuning and remediation.

Storage Administration

  •  Support provisioning, configuration, and ongoing operations of enterprise storage platforms (e.g., Dell EMC PowerStore, Unity, Isilon/PowerScale).
  • Analyze storage performance metrics and assist with capacity planning.
  • Participate in lifecycle management of storage and backup systems, including upgrades and refreshes.

Customer Interaction & Technical Support

  • Interface with enterprise customers via phone/email to resolve issues.
  • Maintain documentation, run books, and CRM entries.
  • Ensure delivery against SLAs and contractual obligations.

Disaster Recovery & High Availability

  • Assist in the planning, execution, and validation of disaster recovery and business continuity procedures.
  • Support replication technologies and high-availability configurations to ensure system resiliency.

Architecture & Design

  • Architect CommVault solutions to meet evolving customer needs.
  • Collaborate with developers to implement and test enhancements.
  • Contribute to best practices, reporting, and monitoring tools.

Infrastructure Management

  • Support infrastructure operations including release/change management.
  • Maintain awareness of customer environments and ensure compliance.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.

Monitoring & Optimization

  • Monitor infrastructure health using enterprise monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Datadog).
  • Identify opportunities to automate routine tasks (PowerShell scripting is a plus).
  • Contribute to improvement of operational standards, best practices, and security controls.

How would your day look like?

  • Monitor daily backup job status, storage performance dashboards, and system alerts, ensuring backup success and healthy storage utilization.
  • Troubleshoot backup failures, performance issues, and storage capacity alerts, escalating complex cases when needed.
  • Work with application, server, and network teams to resolve incidents, fulfill provisioning requests, and support ongoing operational needs.
  • Update run books, knowledge base articles, ticket notes, and capacity reports to keep documentation accurate and current.
  • Participate in change management activities, including patching, configuration updates, and scheduled maintenance windows.
  • Assist in planning and testing disaster recovery procedures, replication validation, and failover readiness.
  • Look for opportunities to automate repetitive workflows using scripting or available tools.
  • Attend stand-up or status meetings to review priorities, project progress, and open support cases.

Who are we looking for?

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-6 years in technical support or system administration, preferably in storage/backup.
  • Experience with enterprise-level backup environments and infrastructure operations.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.

 

Certifications (Preferred):

  • CommVault certification or equivalent enterprise backup certification.
  • Familiarity with VMware vSphere environments.
  • Experience in environments with DR / HA requirements (healthcare or large enterprise exposure a plus).
  • PowerShell scripting or automation experience.
