About the Role

The Interoperability Consultant/Engineer will support the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of healthcare data integrations across clinical and enterprise systems. This role will work with integration leads, application teams, business stakeholders, and vendors to ensure secure, reliable, and standards-based data exchange. The position requires strong analytical skills, technical aptitude, and a desire to learn modern interoperability tools, APIs, and cloud technologies.

What will you be responsible for:

  • Design, develop, configure, and maintain healthcare integrations using engines such as Corepoint, InterSystems, Mirth, or Cloverleaf.
  • Support integration workflows using HL7, FHIR, CDA, DICOM, and related healthcare data and terminology standards.
  • Analyze business and technical requirements; contribute to interface specifications, mappings, and integration workflows.
  • Develop and troubleshoot API-based integrations using JSON, XML, REST, and cloud-based components where applicable.
  • Collaborate with architects and senior engineers to understand integration patterns, solution roadmaps, and best practices.
  • Work with DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployments, and operational processes.
  • Monitor interface operations—including message flow, queues, system alerts—and resolve integration incidents in a timely manner.
  • Support application and data teams in building and maintaining system integrations and data pipelines.
  • Maintain documentation for interface design, configuration, deployment steps, and support runbooks.
  • Participate in defining SLAs, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives for integration processes.
  • Stay updated on emerging interoperability standards, API frameworks, and modernization trends in the healthcare domain.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and global teams to deliver integration solutions aligned with business priorities.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, assist in identifying dependencies, and support milestone planning and execution.
  • Understand end-to-end integration architecture, system dependencies, and the impact of changes across connected applications.

Who are we looking for?

  • Experience: 1–4 years of experience in healthcare IT, or related field.

  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong hands-on experience with at least one interface engine (e.g., Corepoint, Mirth, Cloverleaf, InterSystems HealthShare/HealthConnect).
    • Working knowledge of healthcare data standards: HL7 v2/v3, FHIR, CDA, DICOM, and terminology such as LOINC, SNOMED CT.
    • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, XSLT, and general integration patterns.
    • Proficiency in one programming/scripting language: Python, ObjectScript,  Java, .NET, JavaScript/Node.js, etc.
    • Understanding of SQL, networking concepts, security fundamentals, and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP).
    • Exposure to DevOps practices (CI/CD, automated testing, Git, pipelines).
  • Good to Have:
    • Experience supporting EHR integrations (Epic, Cerner, etc.).
    • Experience with interface monitoring tools and alerting systems.
    • Certifications in HL7, FHIR, integration engines, or cloud technologies.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
    • Curiosity and willingness to learn modern interoperability and cloud technologies.
    • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
    • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional, global teams.
    • Accountability, attention to detail, and customer-first mindset.

What This Role Offers

  • Opportunity to work across diverse healthcare systems, standards, and integration technologies.
  • Exposure to cloud modernization, API-driven architectures, and data interoperability trends.
  • Collaboration with global teams across clinical, revenue cycle, and enterprise domains.
