Below is a reframed and elevated Senior Manager Job Description, built from your original JD but expanded to reflect people leadership, enterprise ownership, strategy, and executive influence, which are expected at Senior Manager level.

Senior Manager – Network & Cloud Security Architecture

About the Role
Cybersecurity at Providence is responsible for protecting all information related to caregivers, affiliates, and patients, as well as safeguarding confidential business information. As a Senior Manager – Network & Cloud Security Architecture, you will provide strategic leadership for network security architecture across the enterprise, ensuring solutions align with business objectives, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements. You will lead architects, influence infrastructure execution, and partner with senior IT and business leaders to advance Providence’s security maturity.

What will you be responsible for?

Strategic Leadership & Ownership

  • Define, own, and continuously evolve the enterprise network and cloud security architecture strategy, aligned with business priorities, regulatory obligations, and enterprise risk appetite.
  • Act as a senior advisor to IT and business leadership on network security risks, trade-offs, and long-term investment decisions.
  • Translate emerging security trends (Zero Trust, SASE, AI-driven security, cloud-native networking) into multi-year enterprise roadmaps.

Architecture & Engineering Oversight

  • Provide architectural governance and direction for secure design and deployment of firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, SD-WAN, Zero Trust, SASE, and cloud networking platforms.
  • Lead and approve Proof of Concept (PoC) and technology evaluations, delivering clear architectural recommendations and executive-ready outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain reference architectures, standards, design patterns, and guardrails for network and cloud security.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of network security architects and senior engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Set priorities, define success metrics, and ensure architectural work scales across teams and geographies.
  • Influence without direct authority by guiding Infrastructure and Cloud teams toward secure-by-design implementations.

Governance, Risk & Incident Engagement

  • Identify systemic gaps in the network security posture and drive pragmatic, scalable remediation strategies across infrastructure teams.
  • Provide senior-level technical oversight during significant incidents, ensuring root cause analysis leads to durable architectural and standards improvements.
  • Ensure network security capabilities are compliant with internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory frameworks.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Partner closely with Enterprise Architects, Application Security, IAM, Cloud, and Infrastructure leaders to ensure consistent and integrated security designs.
  • Manage strategic vendor relationships, product lifecycles, and technology rationalization aligned with enterprise architecture principles.
  • Ensure security platforms align with enterprise strategy while Infrastructure teams manage day-to-day operations.

What would your work week look like?

  • Driving architecture strategy, standards, and governance rather than hands-on configuration.
  • Reviewing and approving high-impact designs for on-prem, cloud, and hybrid network environments.
  • Coaching architects and influencing Infrastructure execution through clear direction and guardrails.
  • Engaging with senior IT leadership on roadmap alignment, risk decisions, and technology investments.
  • Staying ahead of evolving threats and technologies and translating them into actionable enterprise outcomes.

Who are we looking for?

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10–15 years of experience in Information Systems, with 7+ years in IT Security, including significant experience in network security architecture.
  • Proven experience leading or influencing enterprise-scale network and cloud security initiatives.
  • Deep expertise in firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, SIEM, endpoint protection, and network security tooling.
  • Strong experience with modern network architectures including SD-WAN, Zero Trust, SASE, and cloud-native networking.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience incorporating AI/ML-driven security capabilities into network or security platforms.
  • Demonstrated people leadership, mentoring, or matrix leadership experience.
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CCNP Security, CCIE Security, or equivalent.

Senior Manager Differentiators (What Makes This Role “Senior”)

  • Enterprise ownership, not just solution design
  • People leadership and architectural governance
  • Executive-level communication and influence
  • Strategic roadmap and investment accountability

If you want, I can also:

  • Tailor this for Providence-specific leveling
  • Convert it into a job posting vs internal JD
  • Align it to Director-readiness expectations
