Application Support Engineer – Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS/LIS)

About the Role

Providence Global Center is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Application Support Engineer to support Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS/LIS). This role is suited for professionals with foundational experience in application support who can independently handle L2 support responsibilities while continuing to build expertise in laboratory systems, integrations, and cloud technologies.


Key Responsibilities

Application Support & Monitoring (L2)

  • Provide L2 support for LIS/LIMS applications across on-premises and Azure Cloud environments. 
  • Monitor application health, investigate alerts, and resolve incidents within SLA. 
  • Independently troubleshoot and resolve moderately complex issues; escalate only high-complexity issues with detailed analysis. 

Laboratory Workflow Support

  • Support laboratory workflows including order entry, sample processing, and result reporting. 
  • Analyze and resolve workflow-related issues impacting lab operations. 

Integration & HL7 Support

  • Support integrations between lab instruments, middleware, LIS, and EHR systems. 
  • Troubleshoot HL7 interface issues, including message failures, queue backlogs, and data mismatches. 
  • Work with logs and interface engines to identify and resolve issues. 

Clinical Coding & Mapping

  • Work with clinical coding systems such as LOINC, SNOMED, ICD, and CPT. 
  • Troubleshoot issues related to code mapping, test configurations, and data inconsistencies. 
  • Ensure accurate data flow and interoperability across systems. 

Incident, Problem & Change Management

  • Handle incidents, service requests, and problem tickets independently. 
  • Contribute to root cause analysis (RCA) and implement fixes for recurring issues. 
  • Support change management activities including deployments and validation. 

System Maintenance & Support

  • Assist in application maintenance, patching, and upgrades. 
  • Support system validation, testing, and post-release verification. 
  • Maintain documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base articles. 

Learning & Development

  • Continuously build expertise in LIS systems, laboratory domain, and integrations. 
  • Develop working knowledge of Azure Cloud and infrastructure concepts. 
  • Actively seek opportunities to upskill and take on more complex responsibilities. 

Required Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in application support (L2 support preferred). 
  • Basic to good understanding of healthcare systems or LIS/LIMS. 
  • Exposure to clinical coding standards: LOINC, SNOMED, ICD, and CPT. 
  • Experience troubleshooting code mapping or data-related issues (basic level acceptable). 
  • Working knowledge of HL7 messaging and interface troubleshooting. 
  • Experience supporting integrations (lab instruments, middleware, LIS, EHR). 
  • Exposure to Azure Cloud and/or on-prem infrastructure environments. 
  • Understanding of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management). 
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. 
  • Ability to work independently on most support tasks. 
  • Good communication and collaboration skills. 
  • Strong eagerness to learn and grow in domain and technology. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare or laboratory environments. 
  • Familiarity with interface engines or integration tools. 
  • ITIL Foundation or Azure fundamentals certification.
