Job Title: Principal Integration Engineer

The integration team plays a critical role in advancing Providence’s vision of health for a better world by enabling seamless, secure data exchange across diverse healthcare systems—ensuring caregivers have timely access to accurate, actionable information. Their work directly empowers caregivers, improves coordination, and upholds Providence’s mission to serve all—especially the poor and vulnerable—through reliable, scalable, and standards-driven interoperability solutions.  

What will you be responsible for?

  • Architect and lead secure, scalable integration solutions using platforms like Ensemble, Corepoint, Rhapsody, and others.
  • Define and execute cloud-first interoperability strategies, enabling real-time data exchange and analytics across clinical and operational systems.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to align integration initiatives with business goals and unify cross-functional efforts under a shared vision.
  • Oversee interface development, data mapping, transformation, and performance optimization to ensure seamless and reliable system interoperability.
  • Establish enterprise-wide data governance and ensure compliance with healthcare standards including HIPAA, GDPR, and SMART on FHIR.
  • Lead and mentor global integration teams, fostering innovation, agility, and deep expertise in US healthcare workflows.
  • Monitor integration performance, resolve complex issues, and stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience architecting secure, scalable integration solutions in complex healthcare environments.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise integration patterns, API design, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Java, C#, Python, or Go) and experience with interface engines and middleware (e.g., Corepoint, Rhapsody, InterSystems, Mulesoft, Kafka).
  • Deep understanding of healthcare interoperability standards (HL7 v2.x, CDA, FHIR, EDI X12, DICOM, IHE) and regulatory frameworks (HIPAA, GDPR, SMART on FHIR, OAuth2.0).
  • Familiarity with EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Allscripts) and healthcare workflows including documentation, orders/results, demographics, and billing.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), networking protocols (TCP/IP, SSL), and diagnostic tools (Wireshark).
  • At least one certification in HL7, FHIR, or related standards (e.g., IHE, SNOMED CT, CDA).
  • Proven ability to lead global teams and drive cross-functional alignment in large healthcare organizations
  • Exposure to AI/ML in healthcare interoperability, including clinical NLP and predictive mapping.

As a Principal Integration Engineer, your day balances operational stability with strategic innovation. You’ll work closely with developers and project stakeholders to ensure integrations run smoothly, while partnering with architects and business leaders to design scalable solutions that advance Providence’s interoperability vision. Expect to troubleshoot complex issues, guide technical teams, and contribute to both immediate delivery and long-term transformation.
