Job Summary:

As a 2nd Level Backup Administrator, you will be responsible for the administration, monitoring, and support of enterprise backup and recovery services across distributed environments. You will ensure backup operations run reliably, data is protected in line with business and compliance requirements, and recovery processes are tested and executed effectively to support business continuity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implementation / Administration:
    • Administer and maintain enterprise backup and recovery infrastructure across physical, virtual, and cloud environments.
    • Configure backup jobs, policies, schedules, retention rules, and storage targets in alignment with business requirements.
    • Monitor daily backup operations, investigate failures, and ensure timely issue resolution within agreed service levels.
    • Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for backup, restore, and storage-related incidents.
    • Support restoration requests and validate successful recovery of data, systems, and applications.
    • Manage backup storage utilization, performance tuning, capacity planning, and optimization activities.
    • Maintain operational documentation, standard procedures, recovery runbooks, and environment records.
    • Collaborate with infrastructure, database, virtualization, security, and application teams to support data protection requirements.
    • Generate operational reports on backup success rates, exceptions, storage growth, and service health metrics.
    • Contribute to process improvement, automation opportunities, and service reliability initiatives.
    • Disaster Recovery & Compliance:
    • Support disaster recovery planning by ensuring backup availability, recoverability, and alignment with recovery objectives.
    • Conduct and support backup recovery testing to validate restoration procedures and business continuity readiness.
    • Apply data security controls such as encryption, access management, and retention governance to protect backed-up information.
    • Ensure backup operations and retention practices comply with internal policies, audit requirements, and regulatory standards.
    • Provide evidence and documentation for audits, reviews, and compliance assessments as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience supporting enterprise backup, recovery, and data protection operations in a production environment.
  • Strong understanding of backup concepts, retention policies, restore procedures, and storage management.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux server environments, virtualization platforms, and enterprise infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery principles, compliance requirements, and security controls related to data protection.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to maintain clear technical documentation.

Certifications:

  • Relevant backup, storage, cloud, virtualization, or infrastructure certifications are preferred.
  • Industry-recognized certifications in data protection, system administration, or information security are an advantage.
