Role Summary

The Senior Service Engineer (3P) is a senior infrastructure practitioner with deep expertise in VMware platform engineering and operations, responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of critical virtualization services. This role leads complex service engineering work across VMware environments, while also supporting broader infrastructure components across Windows, Linux, and cloud-integrated platforms. The engineer operates in a global delivery model and acts as a technical bridge between operations, architecture, customers, and healthcare partners, with strong focus on service stability, modernization, automation, and proactive improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support highly available, scalable, and resilient VMware-based infrastructure services in enterprise environments
  • Own architecture-level decisions for assigned platforms and services
  • Own deep operational and engineering responsibility for VMware vSphere platforms, with working knowledge of Windows, Linux, and related infrastructure components
  • Plan and execute cloud migration and modernization initiatives
  • Manage and optimize cloud-connected workloads on Azure or AWS with focus on integration, resiliency, and cost efficiency as a complementary skill area
  • Define, measure, and improve SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets for critical services
  • Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and permanent remediation activities
  • Design and implement automation and IaC solutions using Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, Python, and GitHub workflows
  • Build and enhance observability solutions using metrics, logs, traces, and dashboards
  • Lead VMware platform improvements across capacity, performance, availability, lifecycle management, and operational standardization
  • Collaborate closely with third-party healthcare system vendors on infrastructure readiness and stability
  • Mentor junior engineers and review runbooks, automation code, and design documents
  • Participate in follow-the-sun / on-call rotations as part of global support coverage

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5–8 years of experience in VMware-focused infrastructure engineering, service engineering, or platform operations roles
  • Deep hands-on expertise in VMware vSphere, with strong administration experience in Windows or Linux environments
  • Good working knowledge of Azure or AWS architecture and operations as an additional skill area
  • Strong automation and IaC skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform)
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, observability, and incident management tools
  • Strong customer-facing and technical communication skills

Certifications (Preferred)

  • VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV)
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) would be good to have
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional would be good to have
  • ITIL 4 Managing Professional (or Intermediate equivalent)
  • Automation or cloud-native certifications

Good to Have (Senior Practitioner Enhancers)

  • Hands-on experience with Healthcare platforms and vendor-hosted clinical systems
  • Practical exposure to compliance and audit processes (HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC)
  • Demonstrated cloud cost optimization or right-sizing initiatives
  • Experience supporting 24x7 global environments and critical production systems
  • Participation in enterprise migration or consolidation programs
